DR. TALING
Dr. TALING TENE RODRIGUE is a distinguished academic and researcher from Cameroon, specializing in China-Africa Cultural Exchanges, Sino-African relations . He is a passionate of Chinese Martial Arts and Kung-Fu Movies . He holds a PhD from the College of Chinese Wushu at Shanghai University of Sports, China, where his doctoral research focused on the Communication of Chinese Martial Arts (through movies and people-to-people exchanges) in Africa and its interactions with African martial arts and other Local Combats traditions.
Currently, Dr. Rodrigue serves as a Research Fellow at the Institute of African Studies and holds key positions as the Executive Director of the Center for African Film and TV and Deputy Director of the Center for Francophones Studies at Zhejiang Normal University, China. His multifaceted expertise extends to various professional skills, including work as a professional translator (English-French-Chinese), author, martial artist, self-defense instructor, and actor. He is besides the Founder of the China-Cameroon Linguistic & Cultural Center (C2LC2).
Dr. Rodrigue’s academic contributions are significant and diverse. He is known for his comparative research on African and Chinese martial arts, Kung-Fu films, Sino-African cultural and educational cooperation. His work has been published in reputable journals, including the International Journal of African and Asian Studies and Contemporary Film. Notable publications include “Deepening the China-Africa Cultural Understanding: Difference Between Chinese and African Martial Arts Conceptions” (2018) and “Intercultural communication of Chinese Martial Arts in Africa” (2019).
As an advocate for cultural exchange, Dr. Rodrigue has been instrumental in bridging the gap between Chinese and African martial arts traditions. His research highlights the growing influence of Chinese Wushu through Kung Fu movies in Africa since the late 1970s, examining how this has shaped African audiences’ perception of China through visual and bodily memories.
Dr. Rodrigue’s work extends beyond academia. He is the founder of the China-Cameroon Cultural and Linguistic Center, demonstrating his commitment to fostering cross-cultural understanding and cooperation. His expertise has led him to participate in various research projects, including a 2023 Africa Research Project at Zhejiang Normal University, investigating Wushu as a main cultural symbol of China in Africa.
In the realm of international journals, Dr. Rodrigue serves on the editorial board of the International Journal of African Martial Arts & Combat Traditions (IJAMACT), further solidifying his position as a leading expert in his field.
